Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and u-mankind Ltd., a company incorporated in Israel (“u-mankind”, “we”), for the u-mankind app and service. By creating an account you accept them, together with our Privacy Policy. Please read them; they are short.
1. What u-mankind is, and isn’t
u-mankind is anonymous, text-only peer support between adults: one person who needs to talk, matched with one person willing to listen, for a short conversation that is encrypted end to end.
Supporters here are caring community members, not trained mental-health or medical professionals. u-mankind is not therapy, medical advice, crisis intervention or emergency support, and it cannot contact emergency services for you. If you or someone else may be in danger, contact emergency services: in Canada, call 9-1-1, or call or text 9-8-8 to reach the Suicide Crisis Helpline. The app’s crisis resources stay one tap away on your home screen.
2. Who can use u-mankind
- You must be 18 or older. You confirm this when you create an account. An account found to belong to a minor is permanently banned.
- At launch the service is available in Canada, outside Quebec. Requests from elsewhere are refused.
- One account per person. Creating accounts to get around a sanction, or to manipulate ratings, is not allowed.
3. Your account
- Your account is anonymous. Its only key is a passkey on your device or in your passkey provider. We hold no name, email address or phone number, so we cannot recover an account for you: if you lose every copy of the passkey, the account is lost.
- Keep your device and passkey secure. Anything done with your passkey is treated as done by you.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
4. Community rules
When you use u-mankind you agree to these rules:
- Be kind and respectful. No harassment, threats or hate.
- Keep everyone anonymous. Don’t ask for or share names, contacts, locations or social profiles.
- No sexual content.
- No selling, spam or automated messages.
- This is peer support between adults, not therapy or crisis care. If someone may be in danger, point them to emergency help — the app’s crisis resources are one tap away.
Breaking these rules can end your access.
5. Supporters
Supporters are volunteers. They receive no payment, make no professional claims, and do not act for u-mankind. New accounts start in a probationary period during which the supporter role may be withheld. Supporters have a standing based on the ratings seekers give; the app may show a supporter their own standing. u-mankind may withhold or remove the supporter role at any time to protect others.
6. Safety and enforcement
- After a conversation, either person can report the other, choosing a reason from a list. Reports never contain message content, because we cannot read it.
- Enforcement is automatic. Corroborated reports add weighted strikes to an account; strikes lead to a temporary restriction, then a time-limited suspension, then a permanent ban. Reports of threats, sexual content, or a minor using the service carry more weight.
- We may also restrict, suspend or end your access where we reasonably believe it is needed to protect other users or the service.
- If you believe a sanction was wrong, write to privacy@u-mankind.com. We review requests with the records we hold and may reinstate an account.
7. Your conversations
- Messages are encrypted on your device and decrypted only on the other person’s. We cannot read, moderate or recover them. An undelivered message is held in encrypted form only long enough to deliver it, and no history is kept: a conversation lasts up to 15 minutes, and afterwards its messages exist only on the two devices.
- You are responsible for what you write. What the other person does with it is outside our control, which is why the rules forbid sharing identifying details.
- You keep all rights to what you write. You give u-mankind no licence to it, because we never have it.
8. What you must not do
- Harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone.
- Ask for or share names, contact details, locations or social profiles — yours or anyone else’s.
- Send sexual content, sell anything, advertise, spam, or use bots or automation.
- Impersonate u-mankind, its staff, or a professional.
- Interfere with the service, probe or attack it, or try to identify another user. Security researchers: write to security@u-mankind.com.
- Use u-mankind for anything unlawful.
9. Availability and changes to the service
u-mankind is in beta. We may change, suspend or discontinue features or the whole service. We cannot promise that a match will be available, that a conversation will go well, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Disclaimers and limits of liability
- u-mankind is a place to talk with another person. It is not a substitute for professional help, and nothing said in a conversation is advice from u-mankind. Supporters are other users, not our agents.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, u-mankind provides the service “as is” and is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for anything a user says or does.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have under the consumer-protection laws of the place where you live.
11. Ending this agreement
You can end it at any time by deleting your account. We can end it by permanently banning an account under section 6. Sections 7, 10 and 12 survive the end of the agreement.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the courts of Tel Aviv-Jaffa have jurisdiction over disputes about them — except that the mandatory consumer-protection laws of the province or territory where you live continue to apply to you and are not affected by this clause. Please write to us first; most problems are quicker to fix than to litigate.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms carry a version number. New sign-ups always accept the current version. If we make a change that matters, we will show it in the app for you to accept.
Version 2 (October 2026): no change to these terms; the version number tracks the privacy policy, which gained an Advertising section.
